Times Square

In New York City's midtown sector, Times Square is a famous economic junction and a tourist attraction, entertainment center, and neighborhood. Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. Located between 42nd and 47th Streets in Midtown Manhattan, Times Square and its adjoining Duffy Square form a five-block-long bowtie-shaped plaza that connects the two neighborhoods.

Because of the many billboards and advertising that brighten the region, it has been nicknamed "the Crossroads of the World," "the Center of the Universe," "the Heart of the Great White Way," and "the Heart of the World." It is one of the world's busiest pedestrian zones and the core of the Broadway Theater District, and a vital center of the global entertainment industry. It is also one of the world's busiest pedestrian districts. According to official estimates, Times Square is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, attracting an estimated 50 million people every year. Daily, over 330,000 people pass through Times Square, most of them tourists, while on its peak days, over 460,000 pedestrians pass through the area.

Times Square, once known as Longacre Square, was renamed in 1904 when it relocated its offices to the then-newly constructed Times Building, which is today known as One Times Square. It is the location of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop, which started on December 31, 1907. It continues to draw over a million people to Times Square each year. This article

The area around Times Square serves as a town square, although it is not technically a square; instead, it is more like the form of a bowtie, with two triangles radiating approximately north and south from 45th Street, where Seventh Avenue crosses Broadway. The West 42nd Street, West 47th Street, 7th Avenue, and Broadway serve as the neighborhood's boundaries. Times Square is shaped like a "bowtie" because Broadway runs diagonally across it, cutting through Manhattan's horizontal and vertical street grid put out by the Commissioners' Plan of 1811. That juncture forms the "bowtie" shape. Additional info

Because of the commencement of the COVID-19 epidemic in New York City during the first half of 2020, the number of individuals who traveled to Times Square was decreased by a third. In late 2020, around 108,000 pedestrians passed through Times Square each day, compared to 380,000 before the virus struck. From March to October 2020, 26 of the region's 46 hotels and 39 of 151 retailers, and 84 of 162 eateries shuttered their doors. On New Year's Day 2021, Times Square was closed to the general populace, and onlookers were segregated into cages 8 by 8 feet in size (2.4 by 2.4 m).
