Staten Island Ferry
NYDOT's Staten Island Ferry service, the ferry's sole route stretches 5.2 miles (8.4 km) in NY Harbor between the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Staten Island, with boats making the journey in around 25 minutes. It is the sole direct mass-transit link between the two boroughs. The Staten Island Ferry has charged a modest fee compared to other means of public transportation in the region. The trip has been fare-free since 1997. The Staten Island Ferry is one of many ferry systems serving the greater New York City region, and it operates independently of other systems such as the NYC Ferry and the New York Waterway
The ferry runs 24/7. 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m and 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m, service is every 15 or 20 minutes, with 30-minute service afterward. Weekend service is rare. During the week, service is every 30 minutes; on Sundays, it is every 15. Please see the Schedules for further details.
The Staten Island Ferry links Staten Island's St. George Ferry Terminal with Manhattan's Whitehall Ferry Terminal (also known as the South Ferry), offering transit between the two places. A great post
There are two municipal parking areas available at the St. George Ferry Terminal (accessible off Richmond Terrace). In addition to publicly accessible parking spaces, there are privately maintained parking lots next to the Staten Island Yankees Ball Park. At the Whitehall Ferry Terminal, there is no public parking available. See Getting There for details on how to get there and how much it will cost.

Here are some facts and information to keep in mind:
- Bicycles are allowed but must be housed in the approved bicycle storage locations. Bicyclists must walk their bicycles to the bicycle loading area and board the train from the lower level to be admitted. Everyone on the plane, even bikes, must pass through the security check.
- All rollerblades, skateboards, and non-motorized scooters must be walked through the terminals and onto the boats for the safety of our guests.
- Onboard the boat, you are permitted to record videos for personal use. A permit from the Department of Transportation is required for the commercial use of video, picture, or audio recording equipment. A fantastic read
- Smoking is forbidden on the boat and in most sections of the terminals, except for open spaces that have been designated as smoking zones.
- Every boat is equipped with a concession to stand for meals. Hard liquor isn't sold here, just beer. Food concessions are available 24/7 if a boat is present.
- The Staten Island Ferry is a free facility available by the City of New York that transports people between Staten Island and Manhattan.
